Throughout the year, experienced Proctors historians lead walking tours of this magnificent downtown arts and entertainment complex that presents national Broadway tours, movies, organ concerts, and special events for many local organizations.
You’ll learn the exciting story of Frederick Freeman Proctor and see the evidence of his intense love for the arts in the Capital District. See the theatre from an actor’s point of view when you "tread the boards" of the stage; travel backstage to see the newly expanded stagehouse that enables Broadway shows to tour with Proctors; hear little-known stories about the famous and the infamous as you tour dressing rooms, ornate hallways, and museum. Now that Proctors is also the home of the new Schenectady Heritage Area Visitors Center, learn an abundance of information about the city’s start as a Dutch settlement that sprang to life and became known as “Electric City”.
Walking tours of this restored 1926 Vaudeville theatre are facilitated by Marilyn Sassi, who began her volunteer work as a member of The Theatre Guild at Proctors and remains a proactive contributor to Proctors History Committee. Public tours are free and scheduled often throughout the year. Private tours for groups of fifteen or more can be arranged by calling Proctors Business Office at 518•382•3884 x 111
