It's no act: Students can go to school at Proctors!

Ever wonder what goes on backstage, behind the curtain? Proctors in Schenectady has partnered with the Capital Region BOCES Career & Technical School to offer a new Theatre Arts Technology program to begin in September.

This two year course is designed for high school juniors and seniors and will also be open to adult students on a space-available basis.

Theatre Arts Technology students will prepare for such careers as theatre, lighting or sound technician; costumer; stage manager, carpenter or stagehand; scenery or set fabricator; or production manager or assistant. They will learn about technical aspects of theatrical production including design interpretation, tools and equipment, building materials, construction and painting techniques, and stage lighting and sound.

Internships and job shadowing will build real-world skill, help Theatre Arts Technology students explore career opportunities, and give them a head start on further study. First-year high school students will earn credit for integrated science, and second-year students will earn credit for integrated English. Career & Tech is also working with area colleges to grant students credit for Theatre Arts Technology.

Students will have the opportunity to learn from Proctors staff and visiting professionals. The Theatre's ongoing expansion will benefit Theatre Arts Technology students by offering a multitude of venues and resources which will integrate into their curriculum.

Imagine watching today's grandest Broadway blockbusters load-in and tech before their opening night performance, or spending time with arts professionals in the environment in which they live and work. Intense learning experiences will take place - every day -and will now be tapped through an ambitious and strategically focused program for the region's youth.
