Danny DeVito’s film adaptation of a Roald Dahl work tells the story of a gifted girl (Mara Wilson) forced to put up with crude, distant parents (DeVito and Rhea Perlman). Worse, the principal at Matilda’s school is a terrifyingly strict bully. When Matilda realizes she has the power of telekinesis, however, she learns to defend herself and her friends from this nastiness. Rated PG for elements of exaggerated meanness and ridicule, and for some mild language. 93 minutes.
