The American Film Institute Essentials

Directed by Dennis Hopper, the 1969 breakthrough counterculture film Easy Rider tells the story of Wyatt (Peter Fonda) and Billy (Dennis Hopper), two bikers who road trip their way to Mardi Gras and encounter wild situations.

Their journey ultimately leads them through an eye-opening experience that includes varying types of contraband, hitchhikers, hillbillies, a drunk lawyer and other unsavory characters.

Featuring the music of The Band, The Jimi Hendrix Experience and Steppenwolf, Easy Rider received two Academy® Award nominations, including Best Supporting Actor for Jack Nicholson’s performance as lawyer George Hanson.
