Teatro La Fenice - La Rondine

June 20 - 24, 2008
Starting in January 2008 the GE Theatre at Proctors, working with Emerging Pictures, in a regional exclusive, will bring the Operas from La Scala and two other prestigious Italian opera houses to the Capital region through digital high definition broadcast on the enormous iwerks screen. The operas have been recorded live in gorgeous HDTV format with Dolby Digital sound that takes full advantage of the state of the art equipment and facilities at Proctors. The series begins with Verdi's Aida on Friday, January 11th.

La Rondine is an opera in three acts by Giacomo Puccini to an Italian libretto by Giuseppe Adami, based on a libretto by Alfred Maria Willner and Heinz Reichert. It was first performed at the Théâtre de l’Opéra (or the Théâtre du Casino) in Monte Carlo on 27 March 1917. La Rondine shares some resemblance to Verdi's La Traviata and one critic called it "the poor man's La Traviata". This opera will be directed by Graham Vick.
