CDTA AND PROCTORS TEAM UP TO PROMOTE TRANSIT AND THEATRE

January 31 - February 2, 2008

(Albany, NY) – The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) and Proctors Theatre are partnering on a new program, featuring incentives to encourage Capital Region residents to take the bus and enjoy the arts. Patrons who purchase a Proctors show ticket will receive, upon request, a free CDTA day pass. CDTA customers who show their monthly Swiper pass at the Proctors Box Office will receive 10% off select Proctors shows.

Proctors Theatre in Schenectady has become a CDTA sales outlet, selling Swiper cards, 10-trip and 3-day passes at the Box office during their normal hours of operation.

“Proctors Theatre is a premier entertainment destination bringing in top billing shows and is located near CDTA’s strongest transit corridor, ” said CDTA Chairman David Stackrow. “We are pleased to partner with Proctors as a centrally located sales outlet, and on this promotion to offer incentives that encourage people to see a show and ride CDTA buses. CDTA ridership has increased 6% over the last year and Proctors has seen a record attendance at many shows this year. This unique program exposes the benefits of both theatre and transit to different audiences,” said Stackrow.

“Proctors Theatre draws people from all over the region and beyond to attend shows and

participate in a myriad of activities,” said Proctors CEO Phillip Morris. “Given CDTA’s connections throughout the region, this arrangement makes sense for all involved. Patrons have various convenient transportation options available to get to Proctors; free parking, group coach travel, and now riding the bus with the convenience of purchasing bus passes right on the premises, “ continued Morris. “Now there is no reason not to come to Proctors.”

Transit systems all over the country are looking for new ways to convince people to leave their cars at home. The CDTA/Proctors arrangement gives people another reason to try transit and take in a show. CDTA has 15 routes that serve downtown Schenectady near Proctors Theatre and provide connections throughout the region.
