6 - 9 PM6:00 PM
Participants will rejuvenate the centuries old handicraft tradition of coiling using fibrous materials. Learn how to create a contemporary basket or sculpture using the coiling method and a variety of fibers. Discuss the contemporary evolution of this ancient art and create your own artistic basketry.
In the second session use your newly learned coiling skills to both create and collectively assemble the unexpected. The entire group of participants will work collectively to create a piece of site-specific public sculpture. The piece may be free standing, relief sculpture or it may hang from the ceiling. Expect the unexpected!
The entire class will work collectively to create a public sculpture for the new Robb Alley at Proctors!
Opening Reception of The Coil, Twist, Cut & Paste exhibit in Robb Alley will be May 16, 5-9pm, Art Night Schenectady
The Contemporary Coil Basket workshop is $60 for both sessions including materials. Take all three classes for $150. Follow the links below to learn about the other classes
