Learn about the craft technique known as papertole. Papertole is the 19th-century method of making three-dimensional pictures by cutting, shaping and layering prints of the same image (like multiple copies of greeting cards, magazine illustrations, etc.) to create an illusion of perspective. Using papertole as our working method we will make shadowbox dioramas that tell individual stories and suggest a sense of space.In the follow-up session the group will collaborate on making one large papertole diorama on the subject of “Downtown Schenectady.” By using our collective skills, ideas and imaginations we will make an exciting street scene tableau of the buildings, shops, people and things that are part of this new, rejuvenated city.
