Formed over 35 years ago to preserve Peru's African heritage, Perú Negro has performed all over the world and been appointed "Cultural Ambassadors of Peruvian Culture" by the Peruvian Government. "A nonstop carnival of rhythm" (LA Times), Perú Negro's high-energy show is made up of festive and celebratory dances interwoven with vibrant live music, recreating the folkloric history of their ancestors. Perú Negro's second US-released album Jolgorio (2004 Times Square Records) received both a Grammy nomination for Best Traditional World Music Album as well as a Latin Grammy nomination.
