REALLY IT’S RARE...TO FIND A BAND WITH FOUR GOOD SINGERS, AND THERE WAS A REAL BEAUTY IN THE BELL-CLEAR GUITAR - Woodstock Times
SING & PLAY OLD-SCHOOL FOLK LIKE IT WAS BRAND-SPANKING NEW…LUSH, LUXURIOUS - Daily Freeman
Steve Stanne, (guitar, dobro), Betty Boomer, Jean McAvoy, Paul Rubio (guitar, drum) & Robert Bard (bass) belt out, croon or caress an astonishing array of traditional and contemporary songs. Their seemingly endless repertoire includes McAvoy originals, serious and silly, topical and whimsical--swing, folk, a cappella ballads and sea songs. Their close, four-part harmonies are simply sublime.
Based in the Hudson Valley, the group sprang from the musical community surrounding Pete Seeger’s environmental sloop Clearwater, built in the ‘60s to spearhead a cleanup of the Hudson River and still going strong. The Boomers are a key part of Clearwater’s wider community, where life is really set to music. Steve, Jean, Betty, Paul & Robert lend their passion and harmonies to the continuing fight for clean air, peace, justice and human rights. Yet somehow, as with Seeger, a cause never gets in the way of a good song.
You have most likely heard them on our stage: Phil Ochs Song Night, Clearwater's Pumpkin Festival, our 45th Anniversary Concert - occasions calling for great heart, transcendent harmony and love of our beautiful Hudson River.
