"THEIR HARMONIES ARE TIGHT AND SOULFUL, THEIR SPIRITS UNFLAGGING" - Washington Post
The folk-rock sister duo Nerissa & Katryna Nields have created a powerful, passionate, thoughtful, humorous work that explores a crazy ride: this insane 21st century, post-feminist idea that somehow a woman can raise her children, maintain her relationship and career and contribution to her community and sustain her artistic soul - all at the same time..
The Nields come damn close with The Full Catastrophe, their 16th album since the heyday of their legendary band The Nields. For this album, there was help from friends Dar Williams, Ben Demerath, Tracy Grammer, Jazer Giles, Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers.
Their point, they say, is to surrender to the mess. As Nerissa writes in the second track on the CD, "I don’t need the good life; I just need life... If you’ll see me that way/with my feet covered in clay/I’ll meet you back at the fruit tree."
Nerissa says, "Our cups overfloweth. We choose those cups, and we surrender to the reality that this means many many spills need to be cleaned up."
Here's to the mess. That's no small thing.
