Tommy Sands: “Arising from the Troubles”

Legendary County Down singer-songwriter Tommy Sands' new narrated concert program, performed with his startlingly talented son Fionàn, is based on his recent album Arising from the Troubles, released in the U.S. by Tommy on this tour. We’re pleased and proud to welcome him back!

These remarkable songs - one written with his old friend Pete Seeger - are complemented by Sands' narrative of first-hand experiences in this too often sad, sometimes hopeful time in his native Northern Ireland.

“REMARKABLE, EXUBERANT, WORLD-CHANGING MUSICIAN” - Appleseed

“THE GENTLE SONGS OF A GENTLE MAN, RINGING OUT ABOVE THE TUMULT AND THE SHOUTING.... THROUGH PEOPLE LIKE TOMMY SANDS THERE WILL BE AN ANSWER.” - Belfast Telegraph

”NORTHERN IRELAND IS A SAVAGE PLACE DRENCHED IN DECENCY.  PERHAPS IT CANNOT BE UNDERSTOOD OTHER THAN BY AN ACT OF ARTISTIC IMAGINATION. ARISING FROM THE TROUBLES OFFERS A MORE ELOQUENT AND EXPANSIVE ACCOUNT OF OUR AWKWARD REALITY THAN ANY SHELF LOAD OF ACADEMIC ANALYSES." - Eamonn McCann, Irish journalist, author & activist
