Let Your Freak Flag Fly Student Art Contest and Exhibition -
A celebration of individuality, uniqueness and acceptance of all that makes us weird.

Fenimore Asset Gallery
The Freak Flags are waving this Art Night at Proctors, with artwork from several local schools proudly hanging for the Let Your Freak Flag Fly student art contest and exhibition.

Students from Schenectady, Niskayuna, Colonie, Cohoes and Latham submitted over 550 pieces of work, from self-portraits in watercolor to 3-Dimensional pieces in clay and decoupage, as well as a massive chandelier-like installation from Abram Lansing Elementary School in Cohoes.

The exhibition aims to showcase the talent and individuality of local students and schools, while having some fun exploring the themes of Shrek The Musical which plays concurrently with the exhibit. The installation comprises close to 500 individual Freak Flags created by students and woven together to create the layers of an onion (because what does Shrek say ogres are like? Onions)

The Let Your Freak Flag Fly art show opens Friday, January 20th for Art Night Schenectady and runs until March 7th, 2012. Public voting for the contest will take place from 5-7pm on January 20th, and winners will be announced that evening at a special presentation in the GE Theatre.

The Soviet Propaganda Posters Exhibition
"Red and Black on White"

Albany InternationalRoom
The exhibition presents a composite portrait of Russia during the Soviet era and includes 15 copies of the Soviet posters. Russian posters are noteworthy for their powerful graphic design and savvy propaganda. It's also a must for anyone interested in the history of conveying messages through pictures. These masterpieces of 20th century design were intended to be used and tossed. Instead, they've ended up... on museum walls.
