Don’t let your students miss out on an opportunity of a lifetime! The School of Performing Arts at Proctors announces HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL THEATRE AWARDS for New York’s Capital Region in partnership with The Broadway League. Fashioned after Broadway’s TONY Awards, this ceremony will celebrate the achievements of the region’s theatre students, highlighting the importance of arts and theatre education.
Educators, industry professionals, and theater experts review productions at registered schools, nominating participants in categories such as Best Ensemble, Best Leading Actor, Best Supporting Actor, and more!
The winner in the Best Actor and Best Actress categories will go on to represent Proctors and the Capital Region at The National High School Musical Theatre Awards competition in New York City on June 26, 2017 in an all expenses paid trip to receive training from working Broadway professionals and compete with students from around the country for the title of Best National High School Actress and Best National High School Actor. The first fifteen eligible schools who meet all eligible criteria and submit a completed application will be guaranteed participation.
The National High School Musical Theatre Awards (NHSMTA) was established in 2009 to elevate the importance of theater arts education in schools and reward excellence in student performance. The program impacts over 50,000 students annually who participate in high school musical theater competitions sponsored by thirty professional theaters throughout the US.
The winner of the Proctors Best Actress and Best Actor awards will go on to represent Proctors and New York’s Capital Region at the National High School Musical Theatre Awards (NHSMTA, known as The Jimmy Awards) on June 26, 2017. The winners will receive an all-expenses paid trip to New York City where they will receive professional instruction and compete with students from other regional programs for the title of Best National High School Actress and Best National High School Actor.
To be eligible to participate in The Jimmy Awards, the regional Best Actress and Best Actor winners must have played a NHSMTA-recognized leading role in their school’s production. For this reason, only students playing a NHSMTA-recognized leading role in their school’s production will be eligible for a Best Actress and/or Best Actor nomination.
