Theatre

This inaugural event will feature readings of two never before produced plays and one musical.

The best in raw theater and an opportunity for playwrights, directors, actors, composers and their audiences to share ideas, perspective and light fare. In addition, each of the 3 days of performance will be spiced with surprising new ways of looking at and engaging in, live theater.

Next Act! will take place at Capital Repertory Theatre and in the GE Theatre at Proctors as both organizations combine their resources to give us a first peek at these new works, each under consideration for future full production.

After a call for new work that resulted in submissions of more than 120 plays, Capital Repertory Theatre and Proctors proudly announce the winning selections:

  • The Piper, music and lyrics by Grammy-Award winning songwriter, Marcus Hummon, book by Michael Aman and Marcus Hummon
  • Hope And Gravity by Michael Hollinger
  • The God Game by Suzanne Bradbeer

In addition to the readings, the three-day summit includes special daytime events designed to shed light on new play development including discussions with the featured artists. Complimentary refreshments will be available at all events.

Be part of Next Act! and the future of theater in the Capital Region.

more about the playwrights

Mr. Ullmann was a professor of English at Union College from 1957-1992, specializing in Victorian literature and modern drama. With his bequest, he wished  to support the local production of new plays at Proctors by local playwrights.
