Party Horns NYC returns to move, groove and disprove what you know about party music. A trio of evenings featuring 3 very different ensemble bands, (Burnt Sugar the Arkestra Chamber, Brooklyn Qawwali Party and Dead Cat Bounce) all full of beat, rhythm and good time fun straight from the NYC music scene. It's music that will stir your soul and certainly move your feet.
Burnt Sugar the Arkestra Chamber was originally conceived in 1999 as a forum for the New York area improvisational musician to compose, record and perform material which reflects the breadth and depth of American diasporan music in the 21st century. Burnt Sugar, through the deployment of Butch Morris’s conduction system, makes every performance a fresh interpretation of its constituent parts.
Rather than limit themselves to the straight jackets that the commercial recording industry uses to market contemporary Black Music, Burnt Sugar freely moves amongst many styles, eras and genres to devise its own exciting hybrids. These hybrids are based on a solid foundation of various musical traditions and the use of cutting-edge music technology. In this sense the group mission honors its deepest inspirations, the first post-modernists of American music – Duke Ellington, Sun Ra, Parliament Funkadelic and The Art Ensemble of Chicago.
“… BURNT SUGAR APTLY SUMMONED THE SPIRITS OF CHAOS AND ORDER TO SUBLIME EFFECT, UNLEASHING A FEROCIOUS PERFORMANCE THAT LEFT MANY LISTENERS SPEECHLESS AND OTHERS CHEERING FOR MORE.” – Jazztimes.com
"BURNT SUGAR BRINGS TOGETHER A VISIONARY COLLECTIVE OF SOME OF NEW YORK'S FINEST BOUNDARY-SHATTERING MUSICIANS TO MASH UP FUNK, JAZZ, BLACK ROCK, DUB, ELECTRONIC BEATS INTO THEIR OWN FUTURISTIC STEW." - Bill Bragin, Director of Public Programming, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts
