Four great acts, one great night of music!
The super groovy sounds of the 60s will never die as our Spring tradition continues with the 2011 Sixties Spectacular.
Johnny Rivers is one of the most accomplished American musicians associated with the 1960s. His diverse talents include rock and roll singer, songwriter, guitarist and record producer. His styles include “go-go,” folk, blues, renditions of old-time rock n roll songs and original material.
The Association were the first band to perform at 1967’s Monterey Pop Festival (interestingly, Lou Adler and Johnny Rivers helped fund that renowned event). The group evolved out of the Los Angeles folk-rock scene that included the Mamas and Papas and David Crosby. The club “Troubadour” was the unofficial home of those musicians, and owner Doug Weston was the band’s first manager.
Gary Puckett is a long-time favorite of area audiences. Gary Puckett and the Union Gap (the band wore Union Army-style Civil War uniforms in concert) were signed by CBS record producer and songwriter Jerry Fuller to Columbia Records in 1967. Their first single, “Woman, Woman,” reached #4 on the charts and sold over a million copies.
Opening the show is Tony Lee, resident of the UK, with the world’s premier tribute to Gene Pitney. Tony has performed each of last two years at the Pitney family commemoration of Gene’s death and in support of the Gene Pitney Scholarship Fund.
