High School Musical Theatre Festival

This one-of-a-kind opportunity allows students to participate in a full-day musical theatre festival by offering opportunities to strengthen, promote, and share artistic skills within an interactive and supportive theatre environment. It will be a full day of workshops led by industry professionals.
Workshops for the day include: Make-Up FX, Stage Combat, Musical Theatre Dance, Auditioning Tips & Techniques, and Improv & the Art of Comedy
Cost is $200 per group! A maximum of 20 students per group to allow for the best interaction and experience; students from each group are asked to choose three out of the four workshops to participate in. Participation will be limited to first come, first served basis for the first 6 drama groups. The deadline for registration will be February 17, 2017
Make-Up FX – Students will be introduced to special effects make-up design, providing them with a basic understanding of this specialized variation of make-up artistry. They’ll explore the tools, instruments and materials used to create bruises, cuts, blood, aging skin and more. Character creation and methods used to visualize an effect are analyzed.
Stage Combat – This workshop will introduce students to the basic concepts of safety, partnering and targeting that make stage combat safe and repeatable and to the performance skills that make a fight effective and dramatic. Students will gain understanding of body mechanics by using physical acting to tell a story through theatrical violence.
Musical Theatre Dance – Participants will start with an exploration of basic ballet and jazz techniques used in musical theatre dance. Participants will then apply these techniques and learn about dance styles from several different Broadway shows.
Auditioning Tips and Techniques – This workshop will teach you how to make a great first impression at your next audition. Gather valuable tips on preparing for auditions, dress and decorum, body language, cold readings, headshots and more.
Improv and the Art of Comedy – Explore the Elements of Improv in our introductory course. You will learn some of the core fundamentals and principles of improv, focusing on various games and exercises that encourage trust, communication, agreement (“yes and”); active listening, character, status, and making your scene partner look good.
