Summer Adventures at Proctors

Looking for an adventure this summer? Venture into the arts at Proctors! Whether you are interested in dance, music, theatre or the visual arts, Proctors has something to offer you. We have programs for youth ages 6-18, where everyone has a chance to showcase their talents!

Theatre Institute
July 7-18, 2008 M-F 9am-12:00pm
Final performance at 11:00am July 18th 440 Upstairs at Proctor’s

Calling young actors and actresses! Get ready for two weeks of creative movement; voice coaching, improvisation and character development in the new theatre, 440 Upstairs at Proctors. Develop and refine your acting skills in this intensive, non-competitive program. Learn about audition skills, theater etiquette and put on a performance of "Stories Under the Big Top" for family and friends.

Improv Theatre
July 7-11, 9am-12: 30pm
Performance at 12 pm July 11th on the Mainstage at Proctors

Play games, create characters, build scenes and learn the magic of improvisational theatre! Join the Mop and Bucket Company on the Mainstage at Proctors to learn improv skills, stage presence, acting and writing techniques. Then, share your creative and collaborative new improv skills with friends and family during a performance at the end of the week.

Jazz Dance
July 7-11, 2007 1pm-4pm
Performance July 11th 3pm on the Mainstage at Proctors

Leap, kick, and chasse across the Mainstage at Proctors! Spend the week studying classical jazz dance technique and choreography. This program is designed to accommodate all skill levels. The week includes daily technique classes, group discussions, choreography workshops and a final performance.

MATCH chess camp
July 7 - 11, 2008 9am - 4pm

The MATCH chess camp trains participants by using world-renowned Grandmaster Maurice Ashley’s revolutionary teaching method. Learn from the Grandmaster himself as well as from coaches who have been specially trained in his techniques. Between matches enjoy films in the new GE Theatre at Proctors.

Jazz Institute
July 14-25th, 2008 M-F 9am-3pm
Performance “the Gig” at 7:00pm July 25th in the GE Theatre at Proctors

Big Band, swing, bebop and a world of Jazz on the Mainstage at Proctors! Aspiring jazz artists will develop and refine skills needed to succeed in real-life performance situations. Participants will be immersed in the exhilarating creative process that characterizes jazz music while preparing for a recording session and their final performance.

Special Guest Artist From the heart of NYC, the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band and performances all over the world Saxophonist and composer Mark Vinci will join Jazz Institute students and faculty to give master classes and perform in the GE Theatre at Proctors this July.

Tuition: 1 week $200, 2 weeks $380 (Participants must attend the 2nd week in order to be in the July 25th performance)

Acting Intensive
July 21-August 1, 2008 10am-2pm

From Ice breakers and improvisation to memorization and audition preparations this 2-week acting intensive is designed to enhance and explore your technique and commitment to actor training! Here is an opportunity to expand your understanding of the process of rehearsing a role and a chance to tune-up for those upcoming fall auditions at high school or college. Serious young actors will delve into the process of creating a character and collaborate with others through contemporary scene study and ensemble exercises. The workshop will culminate with the presentation of scenes for friends and family.

Missoula Children’s Theatre Casting for Robin Hood
July 28-August 2, 2008 10am-3pm
Auditions: July 28, 2008 10am-12pm
Performances August 1, 2008 1pm and August 2, 2008 3pm on the Mainstage at Proctors

Audition, rehearse and perform! The internationally acclaimed touring company Missoula Children’s Theater will cast 60 children to perform in “Robin Hood.” Participants will spend a week of rehearsal refining acting skills and learning new ones. The week will conclude with a full-scale musical production on the Mainstage at Proctors! No advance preparation is required for auditions. Students will be asked to both speak and sing for group auditions. Wear comfortable clothing and SMILE!

Ages: 6-18 Tuition: $80, includes two performance tickets

Coil, Crochet and Collage
August 4-8, 2008 9am-12pm
Art Opening August 8th 12:00pm

Create and take home a coiled pot, a framed collaged piece of artwork and a lifetime of knowing how to crochet! See the 3D Iwerks movie Sea Monsters and using your new skills be part of building the largest crocheted coral reef installation in the world! Use coil to create structure and movement in the installation, colorful crocheted hyperbolic planes to become the corals and a collage of fish and sea creatures to live in the growing coral reef at Proctors.

Vocal Camp
August 4-8, 2008 9-12:30pm
Performance August 8 11:30am, 440 Upstairs

From the fundamentals of breathing and expanding your pitch range to dramatic presentation and choosing a repertoire; this intensive workshop provides an overview of the fundamentals of singing and performance practice. Voice students will learn healthy vocal techniques, explore technical issues and apply new skills to projects and performances throughout the week.
