Proctors Announces "IT CAME FROM SCHENECTADY" the 24 hour SciFi film festival

Proctors and The Mossey Group have announced a 24-hour SciFi film festival, Sept. 13 through 14, 2008. “It Came From Schenectady” will present a mix of classic and new science fiction feature films, documentaries and shorts from 12 noon Saturday till 12 noon Sunday in the GE Theatre and on Proctors main screen, interspersed with special live guest appearances, contests and giveaways.

“It’s time to recognize the huge SciFi fan base in the capital region. Schenectady is emerging as a regional arts center and creating more niche programming is central to Proctors plan. We’re thrilled to be part of this,” said Larry Mossey, president of the Mossey Group, a Schenectady-based advertising agency and event partner.

Confirmed screenings include Ridley Scott final version of 1982 classic, “Blade Runner- The Final Cut,” to be presented in 35mm format on the Proctors Mainstage screen at midnight. Also confirmed in the GE Theatre, the restored 50th anniversary edition of “Forbidden Planet.” In all, the patrons, or cinamanauts, will experience at least 10 movies during the festival including older and new classics, a local premiere and the just plain weird.

Also scheduled to appear is the Hugo Award winning author Barry B. Longyear, whose collection of short stories “It Came From Schenectady!” inspired the name of the festival. He will be speaking on Science Fiction writing and answering questions. Longyear is also the Author of “Enemy Mine,” which was made into a successful film in 1985 starring Dennis Quaid and Louis Gossett Jr.
