A classic of opera, Verdi‘s famous score is loved for its melody and its drama.

David McVicar‘s immensely popular production, in period costume, brings the 15th-century court of Mantua alive: its womanizing Duke, the court jester Rigoletto bent on revenge and his daughter, Gilda, who the Duke loves but still destroys.

A celebrated score of familiar music conducted by John Eliot Gardiner, and a drama of the passions of love and hate.

Ever since his wife was burned in a car crash, Dr. Robert Ledgard, an eminent plastic surgeon, has been interested in creating a new skin with which he could have saved her. After twelve years, he manages to cultivate in his own laboratory, a skin that is sensitive to caresses, but a real shield against all the aggressions, both external and internal, to which our largest organ is submitted. To obtain it, he has used the possibilities provided by cellular therapy.

In addition to years of study and experimentation, Robert needed a human guinea pig, an accomplice and no scruples. Scruples were never a problem, they weren’t part of his character. Marilia, the woman who looked after him from the day he was born, is his most faithful accomplice. And as for the human guinea pig…

Pedro Almodóvar directs The Skin I Live In, starring Antonio Banderas, Elena Anaya, Marisa Paredes, Jan Cornet and Roberto Álamo.

In picturesque Montmarte, three children wearing a yellow star play in the streets, oblivious to the darkness spreading over Nazi-occupied France. Their parents do not seem too concerned either, somehow putting their trust in the Vichy Government. But beyond this view, much is going on.

Hitler demands that the French government round up its Jews and put them on trains for the extermination camps in the East. The collaborators start to put the plan into effect and within a short time, 13,000 of Paris’s Jews, among them 4,000 children, will be rounded up and sent on a road with no return.

The fateful date: July 16th, 1942, 68 years ago.

In French, German and Yiddish with English subtitles.

Plagued by a series of apocalyptic visions, a young husband and father questions whether to shelter his family from a coming storm, or from himself.

Curtis LaForche lives in a small Ohio town with his wife Samantha and six-year-old daughter Hannah, who is deaf. Curtis makes a modest living as a crew chief for a sand-mining company. Samantha is a stay-at-home mother and part-time seamstress who supplements their income by selling handmade wares at the flea market each weekend. Money is tight, and navigating Hannah's healthcare and special needs education is a constant struggle. Despite that, Curtis and Samantha are very much in love and their family is a happy one.

Then Curtis begins having terrifying dreams about an encroaching, apocalyptic storm. He chooses to keep the disturbance to himself, channeling his anxiety into the obsessive building of a storm shelter in their backyard. His seemingly inexplicable behavior concerns and confounds Samantha, and provokes intolerance among co-workers, friends and neighbors. But the resulting strain on his marriage and tension within the community doesn't compare to Curtis' private fear of what his dreams may truly signify.

Faced with the proposition that his disturbing visions signal disaster of one kind or another, Curtis confides in Samantha, testing the power of their bond against the highest possible stakes.

Il trittico has not been presented in full by The Royal Opera since 1965, and now Richard Jones adds Il tabarro and Suor Angelica to his already popular production of Gianni Schicchi.

Three short contrasting stories make up an evening of opera that has everything from jealousy, murder and suicide to romance, exuberance and sheer transcendent joy.

The cast is superb to bring out the full dramatic range: Eva-Maria Westbroek as the wife in the jealous triangle between her husband and her lover (Il tabarro), Ermonela Jaho as the nun finally released from a painful family secret (Suor Angelica), and Lucio Gallo as the eponymous Gianni Schicchi, who tricks a grasping family out of their inheritance in the cause of true love and comedy. While ‘O mio babbino caro’ has become one of the most famous arias from Il trittico, there is a wealth of music that shows Puccini at his most brilliant in character, melody and orchestration.

For anyone who likes their operatic cycles in concentrated form, this is an evening of dramatic power, emotional range and pure enjoyment.

Through ambitious computer graphics and dramatic reconstructions, the film tells the story of one of the greatest finds in modern history: the late 19th century discovery of a cache of forty mummies, among them the legendary Rameses the Great.

Part historic journey and part forensic adventure, Mummies: Secrets of the Pharaohs is a walk back thousands of years, a real-life Indiana Jones adventure complete with thieves and hidden treasure, and a modern day scientific journey to extract clues about our past.
