Four innovative companies explore the distinct variations of modern style in the two-day Next Move Dance Festival, created and curated by Ellen Sinopoli. This celebration of expression features nationally renowned Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company, SCRAP Performance Group, Bridgman/Packer Dance and Jonah Bokaer Dance.
First to take the stage is Bridgman/Packer Dance, formed by collaborators Art Bridgman and Myrna Packer, who have performed together since 1978. This innovative company integrates video technology and two live performers in their set, featuring the pieces Under The Skin and Carried Away.
SCRAP Performance Group creates movement-based theatrical pieces that experimentally combine dance, theatre, film, light, text and sound. Led by Co-Directors Myra Bazell and Madison Cario, this all-female cast of dancers explores the delicate balance between hope and lamentation in an apocalyptic world with Tide.
On Saturday evening, Jonah Bokaer Dance opens with Recess, which was performed at the world-famous Jacob’s Pillow last summer. This exploratory work is the result of collaboration between Jonah Bokaer and artist/architect Daniel Arsham, and features an improvisational style of measured movement and images of both artists’ work. JBD will also be performing a second piece, Trophy, which has been on tour to various countries most recently.
Named after its creator and Artistic Director, the Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company features a strong group of dedicated and talented dancers who continue to perform incredible pieces of choreography. Emotion and physicality have an equal focus in every ESDC performance, and both help to create an intimate atmosphere for the audience.
