About Stageworks/Hudson
Stageworks/Hudson is one of the few professional theaters annually producing one-acts plays. Though it began as a ten minute play festival, PLAY BY PLAY, entering its eleventh season in 2007, now accepts plays of fifteen to twenty minutes long, giving writers the option to submit potentially richer and more complex work. Over the years, the festival has produced over seventy five one-acts written by both established writers such as Warren Leight, Allan Knee and Israel Horowitz and the some of the most exciting emerging dramatists in the country. Many of the plays have gone on to be produced in subsequent festivals and the full-length work of many former PLAY BY PLAY dramatists, such as Ronan Noone, Tom Coash, Will Eno, Eric Sanders, Gary Garrison, Lucile Lichtblau, James Farrell and Mike Folie, is now produced on regional, national and international stages. Additionally, Stageworks is committed to encouraging and supporting the work of playwrights who live in our community. Nearly two-thirds of the plays staged over the years have been written by regional dramatists.
