AMERICAN HERETICS: The Politics Of The Gospel
American Heretics: The Politics of the Gospel is a deep dive into the roots of America’s entangled and often misunderstood history of religion and politics. To capture a small but representative slice of this enormous topic, the filmmakers focus on America’s heartland from a personal narrative p.o.v. – namely from Rev. Robin Meyer’s experiences as a liberal Protestant Minister in the conservative Bible belt. What followed is a year following the lives and work of Rev. Meyers and other faith leaders, social justice activists, legislators, and self-proclaimed ‘border walkers’ who are working to bridge deep cultural and racial divides in one of the most religious and conservative parts of the country. American Heretics: The Politics of the Gospel touches on the intersection of polarizing themes of Faith, Race, Politics, Immigration and Sanctuary Churches, LGBTQ rights, and progressive and liberal trends deep in the Bible Belt.
