Film: Heart of Nuba

Monday, June 18, 2018 to Thursday, July 12, 2018

Back by VERY popular demand!

An incredible doctor from Amsterdam, NY has dedicated his life to treating patients in the desolate Nuba Mountains of Sudan. Much more than just a local-boy-makes-good story, THE HEART OF NUBA takes a hard but heartfelt look at an unfathomable government campaign targeting defenseless civilians, and the small group of brave, loving people who – led by “Dr. Tom” – serve as compassionate witnesses, while not only patching bodies, but also hearts and minds. Not Rated. 85 minutes.

The Hollywood Reporter writes: “Saints don’t always look the way you’d expect. Case in point: Dr. Tom Catena… Serving as the only doctor for nearly one million, Catena more resembles a hard-working insurance salesman than a man who’s sacrificed so much for others… The people living in this region are under constant aerial bombardment by the forces of the country’s longtime dictator, an indicted war criminal, President Omar Al-Bashir. Bashir wants their land for its rich mineral resources and is not hesitant to commit genocide in order to procure it. The Mother of Mercy Hospital, for which Catena is the only physician, is the only medical facility within 200 miles. Practicing nearly every form of medicine and surgery (he often has to learn on the job), Catena has a steady stream of patients who he attends to with indefatigable energy and good humor.”
