This hilarious Academy Award nominee is competing, not only Best Film, Best Director (Yorgos Lanthimos; The Lobster), Best Actress (Olivia Coleman), and – twice! – for Best Supporting Actress (Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz), but also for Best Screenplay, Cinematography, Editing and you name it, this biographical comedy is nominated!  It’s the early 18th century, and though England is at war with the French, duck racing and pineapple eating are thriving. A frail Queen Anne (Coleman) occupies the throne, and her close friend Lady Sarah (Weisz) governs the country in her stead while tending to Anne’s ill health and mercurial temper. As the politics of war become quite time consuming for Sarah, Abigail (Stone) – a charming new servant – steps into the breach to fill in as the Queen’s companion. Her burgeoning friendship with the Queen allows Abigail the opportunity to pursue and fulfill her grand aristocratic ambitions.  And neither woman, nor man, nor politics – nor rabbit – shall stand in her way.  Rated R for strong sexual content, nudity and language. 119 minutes.
