“Her stories are our stories at once current and timeless, her lyrics are always well crafted and her music supports and enhances but never overpowers her message. Every album from Tret is a treat.” – KTAL-FMAward-winning singer/songwriter/guitarist TRET FURE opens our 2023-24 season, introducing her 18th CD ‘Lavender Moonshine,’ a spectacularly lush album of original topical and love songs. At 16 she was singing in coffeehouses and campuses in the Midwest, and at 19 moved to L.A. in hopes of obtaining a record deal. Within a year she was performing as guitarist and vocalist for Spencer Davis, touring with him and penning the single for his album ‘Mousetrap.’ She went on to record her own album ‘Tret Fure’ in 1973 on MCA/UNI Records, produced by the late Lowell George of Little Feat. Its success led Fure to open for such bands as Yes, Poco, and the J Geils Band.In the early 80s, Tret discovered and embraced the blossoming independent genre known as Women’s Music. Known for her technical expertise and breaking barriers for women in tech, she recorded the best of women’s music, including mixing the legendary ‘Meg & Cris at Carnegie Hall’ (1983). She performed as a duo with Cris Williamson throughout the 90s, also serving as their producer and engineer; they releasing on their three hit CDs before going solo again. Today she boasts nine acoustic solo releases on her own independent label “Tomboy Girl Records” and a full touring schedule to a still-growing fan base.
